Saro, the Musical... nurturing Nigerian youths’ creative energy

Saro, the Musical... nurturing Nigerian youths’ creative energy    "Indeed, Nigeria’s cultural industry will be greatly served when Saro, the Musical, opens at Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, from October 25 through to 27 and beyond. It presents a spectacular moment for showcasing Nigeria’s artistic prowess to the world. When, some years ago some South Africans brought Umoja, essentially scantily dressed women dancing on stage, a production with dubious cultural value, Nigeria’s corporate industry supported it. In addition, when some Americans brought back our own Fela! on Broadway, Nigeria’s corporate industry fell over itself to support it. Saro, the Musical, is a direct response to the challenge Fela! on Broadway presented."

SARO The Musical… Broadway-style theatrical project steps out boldly

SARO The Musical… Broadway-style theatrical project steps out boldly     The creator and producer of the musical, Mrs. Austen-Peters, also founder, Managing Director of the famous art centre, Terra Kulture, leading the guests into the vision that birthed SARO The Musical said over seven-years engagement with theatrical production and promotion through the  Theatre@Terra scheme , had imbued her organisation, Terra Kulture, with the capacity and boldness to envision a grand theatrical package of the magnitude of the musical.    “We are not afraid to embark on a project of this scale because we have been through it all in the past seven years. We have encountered lot of challenges in running the Theatre@ Terra but we have also mastered how to surmount the challenges; so we understand the way to handle a project of this magnitude,” she said to wide applause from the audience.     She continued: “through our engagement with the Theatre, we have been able to create over 500 jobs for both yo

A Tale of Two Parties, Articles | THISDAY LIVE "Continuing, he said it isn’t just a party phenomenon but that it’s all around even on radio and television stations where most of their programmes dwell on entertainment at the expense of literature or art. Later the following day, a call connected to one of the organisers of the concert. What was his overall assessment of the gig? Thrilled to no end, he replied: “It was a huge success.”

ARTSVILLE

ARTSVILLE WHEN the Theatre director, Makinde Adeniran, saw FELA!, two years ago, he didn’t share the enthusiasm that seemed to infect a lot of those who witnessed the show in Lagos. He scratched his head about the authenticity of the dancing. Earlier this year, Adeniran was on the foundation floor of the construction of KAKADU The Musical, produced by Uche Nwokedi, but he left the project when he felt he wouldn’t get to exercise enough directorial control. Now Adeniran has all he wants in a new project: SARO The Musical, produced and promoted by the Terra Kulture Art Centre and billed to come on stage between October and December.

Reinvention of Fagunwa from CHAMS to CBAAC, By Uzor Maxim Uzoatu Reinvention of Fagunwa from CH - AMS to CBAAC, By Uzor Maxim Uzoatu Posted By  Premium Times  On August 23, 2013  I was greatly thrilled by the recent 3-Day International Conference in Akure, capital of Ondo State, in memory of a distinguished pioneer of African literature in indigenous languages, the inimitable Chief Daniel Olorunfemi Fagunwa. What was not particularly thrilling to me was that there was hardly any mention of the past theatrical performances sponsored by CHAMS plc of Fagunwa’s classic novels  Ogboju Ode Ninu Igbo Irunmole  and  Ireke Onibudo  in the original Yoruba and in English translations. These plays were staged rapturously in Ibadan, Lagos, Abuja, Akure and Ile-Ife. It is akin to a sin to forget so soon that these events took place. Scholars, journalists and sundry cultural enthusiasts must always make the connections such as the CHAMS-sponsored plays and the Akure conference to lend some measu
